Chicken Soup for the Soul Event

This exciting new outreach project will be taking place on

Black Friday, November 23, noon to four pm.

It will be comprised of a soup and pie lunch, a basket auction, and feature a resources table with information on d epression and help that can be found in this area. We are working on compiling a directory of agencies, support groups, treatment, and other community resources fo r those in crisis, as well as issuing a personal invitation to join us for a visit with the Great Physician. This will be a heartfelt labor of love for our commu nity, and there are many ways to help:

• Help spread the word. If you have a lead on a community resource for support or care, please let Shelly Dunne know so th at it can be included in the booklet. Let your friends and family know about th e event. Hang a flyer or two, they'll be in the lobby for you to take and di stribute.

• Consider dedicating your Thrivent card to this event, if you have one at your disposal.

• Make a soup, or pie, or rolls, or cornbread. We can supply you with a gallon container for transport of your soup, if needed. Use the sign-up sheets, please!

• Donate handmade, new, or gently used items for the basket auction. We have boxes under the lobby tables to deposit your it ems or baskets in.

• Help out at the event, or with the set-up. We will need kitchen help, auction help, & people to listen and offer information broc hures at the resources tables along with Pastor Bill.

• Bring a friend to the event, almost everyone has a lo ved one with depression. While some may ask why Black Friday, the answer is that it is the kick-off for the Christmas season, which is often a difficult time for people with depression. Also, it is a great opportunity to demonstrate Christ's cari ng, rather than the unbridled greed the day has come to represent. Looking forward to working with you!
